Plot Synopsis: The plot revolves around a small time crook Earl Hickey who gets hit by a car just when he had won a $100,000 lottery. In the hospital, he realises that it’s karma which is responsible for all the bad stuff that has been happening to him and makes a list of all the bad stuff he had done to other people and goes around making it up to them.

Oh yeah, he has an ex-wife (Joy Turner) who tricked him into marrying her while she was pregnant with someone else’s child. She cheats on him constantly and finally gets married to Darnell Turner. His dimwitted brother Randy Hickey follow Earl blindly and helps him with his list item. Throw in the hot latino maid Katalina (Nadine Velazquez is SUPER HOT!).

I love this show just because of the characters especially Randy. He has got such charm and innocence about him that it makes him look adorable when he is just acting stupid. Another one of my favourite characters is Katalina solely because of her sexy latino accent (and ya, jumping half naked in a stripper bar adds to her charm too ). Earl is possibly the most brilliant characters I have seen on TV. Solely because it has been SO brilliantly portrayed by Jason Lee.

Though the show doesn’t offer too many laughs (though it’s supposed to be a sitcom), it does have a feel good factor which really engrosses you, plus the accent of the characters is just amazing!. Watch a couple of episodes and judge for yourself

Majority of the posts are concerned with advice on how to get over an ex. Tough job indeed. But what makes it tough is the self imposed well of pity in which the sufferer plunges himself so innocently. Many term this well as “closure” and long for it as much as I long for Pizza.

The basic illusion of disbelief over a break up generally transcends into wanting a reason and ending up on genial terms. EVERYONE wants to know the reason behind their break up and EVERYONE want to end up as “good friends”. The weird but the painful truth is that 70% of the time there is NO reason at all for the other person’s behaviour.

The want of reason is something which really throws the human mind into an illusion. An old saying “Everything happens for a reason” is something that we swear by. But the problem is, when it comes to emotions there is no reason for profanities.

Emotions are generally uncontrolled. Attraction, repulsion, like, dislike are some things which are instantaneous and can be seldom expressed in lucid words. Yet,  the human mind runs after the Caesar’s gold seeking validation for everything. In process, it falls deeper into an illusion and gives way to self imposed torture.

Emotions are like fog, more you walk into it, the thicker the veil becomes. The more you try to understand the fog, you become unaware of the danger beneath your feet. *sigh*

P: Padh padh ke dimaag kharab ho gaya hai yaar!

H: Same here. I’m famished!

P: Rehne do tum DCE wale!

(A leacherous grin appears on my face)

(A feeble voice calls out)

C: Babuji! Weight check karva lo. Sirf ek rupaye ka hai!

(The uninvited strange interruption provided a welcome relief from the very interesting conversation that was going on between us. A glance towards the direction of the voice revealed a rangy kid with a dripping nose whose right hand was closed tightly around a cheap gel pen and left hand housed a notebook upon which small yet discernible letters were scribbled)

C: Karva lo Babuji! sirf ek rupaye ka to hai!

(P sits besides him)

P: Kahan padte ho?

C: Yahi sarkari school mein didi! Fifth class mein hu.

(I sensed a strange sense of pride in his voice. It was immensely funny feeling, that. Here we were cribbing about our studies and here is this underprivelged kid who is actually keen and happy about the fact that he is in a school)

P: Karva le Hem! 100 kilo ka to hoga tu!

H: You MURDER me with your jokes Prateeksha! Really, you do!

(Anyway, we measured our weight and no I DON’T weigh 100 kilos contrary to the popular lore X(.  We paid the boy 5 rupees and continued on our aimless wandering).

(Suddenly the fearful baritone of the thunder was heard overhead and it gave way to torrents of rain pouring down on unassuming pedestrians who ran helter skelter to save themselves from the rain)

H: Madam, jaldi chalo varna aap bheeg jaoge!

(A gasp stopped us right in our tracks. The gasp suddenly gave way to a melancholy voice. A voice which seemed as though was crying although it had a strange helplessness and despair to it rather than the customary sadness which is attributed to crying. Turning around, the picture unfolded. The weight boy was standing under a thin plastic cover waving over his head, clutching at the weight scale while his notebook lay on the footpath, the beads of rain washing away the neat letters which he had so proudly formed. Standing there and looking at the boy, I wondered. While he clutches to his present as his future gets washed away, are those rain droplets flowing down the drain or his tears)

PS: It’s an old blog post but I decided to import since I love this post.

As I scurried out of the metro station, I realised I was running late. I had to report at NTPC by 10 for my internship. I hate being late (although I inevitably end up being late) so I made a hustle for it. Standing at the bus stop, a million things were running in my mind. Clean my room; practise a new song on the guitar; run errands; finish the novel. My chaotic state of mind was somewhat distracted when my bus appeared on the horizon.

Once on the bus, my mind decided that regurgitation of thought gives it immense pleasure, so my list of agendas started running in full steam. Suddenly, I hear a genial, calm voice laced with heavy German accent , ” Yeh bus X jagah jayegi?”  It was enough to put a brake on my train of thought. Turning around I saw this foreign man, rangy, pink due to the heat, and wearing pink wrap around and a dhoti conversing fluently with the conductor.

While casting surreptitious glances at the foreigner my mind embarked upon another journey, this time a completely voluntary one. I realised while I was cribbing about my long itinenary, this foreigner left his whole world behind to live a life of peace and quiet away from the insidious bumblings and spend time in worship and reverence of God.

Made me wonder. How many times have I sat back and taken it easy. Enjoyed the little things in life. Sometimes we are so caught up in our complicated mindset we forget to enjoy the little things that matter. Rain, Breeze, reading novels sitting in the shade, catching up with old friends etc.

That evening I paid a long due visit to India Gate, my favourite haunt. I called my longlost friend up and exchanged pleasantaries. I played with my neighbour’s dog. That night’s sleep was definitely one of the most peaceful sleep I had had in a while. The simplicity reflected in the demeanour of the foreigner has since stayed in my mind.

As suggested by one Jon Stewart, SRK blew this whole thing out of proportion just to publicize his upcoming film. his exact words were: “Is he Brad Pitt or the guy from Sopranos?” I literally split into peals of laughter at this guy’s ignorance.

After doing some mental maths I ascertained that about half the world knows about SRK (I kid you not, this guy is SO popular that at a premeire the German chicks were ALL over him. He has fans in Africa and Afghanistan for crying out loud!) and talking about Brad Pitt, 90% of the population of India would think his name is a some kind of a new term for pitholes on the roads of Delhi (Pit, Pitt get it? Awww Bad joke ).

Sopranos, a Godfather rip off which isn’t even aired in majority of countries outside US and Italy ( I HAD to put Italy in! ). I am sure even half of US citizens wouldn’t recognise the obese frame of  James Gadolfini if they saw him at an airport. Americans are so BLOODY full of themselves.

This incident has once again exposed the rampant practise of racial profiling which has been given the facade of “prevention of terrorist activities” post 9/11. Hopefully, now some prominent voices will speak and put an end to this stupidity leading to racial discrimination.

EDIT: Coming back to Rajdeep Sardesai. This guy is the WORST interviewer I have EVER seen. He just wouldn’t let SRK speak! Throughout the length of the interview he literally interjected SRK with his over-the-top blasphemies. His election time antics were TOO much to bear sometimes. His loud mouthed, bellicose nature and verbosity were a major turn off resulting in me boycotting CNN-IBN’s coverage of the polls all together. Someone turn this guy’s mike down! Sheesh!

PS: I am NOT a fan of Shahrukh Khan.

But what really made me sit up and take notice was a particular bit of news. A man in Meerut allegedly played Sach ka Saamna with his wife where she revealed that one of the kids was not his. And in a Moment of Rage (no pun intended) he stabbed her. Lol wut? The woman couldn’t lie? There were no lie detectors, were there? Instead she foolishly got herself stabbed. This underlines the hazy vision of Indians which fails to distinguish between reality and reality shows. Everything is sensationalized beyond all means and to such an extent that there are dire consequences.

What surprised me more and really amused me was that people are DYING to participate. In fact, Star Plus is shooing away people because it cannot accomodate people on the show. Some of the reactions:

Anyway, what I am most eager to see is that whether this show would have a second season or not? I surely hope so because reality TV has never been better.

Movie rolls. Movie ends. G.I.Joe in all honesty is a typical action film where a white guy and a black guy teem up to save the world. And yes, throw in a HOT scorned girlfriend who is pissed at the boyfriend because he let her brother die . Oh ya, did I forget to mention? There’s also “nanomites” which can devour anything in it’s path quickly and effectively (like that gag has never been used). So, in short the white guy (some dude with a very wierd name) who strangely has the same face on for the entire movie, a face which seems to be enchanted by some wierd ancient spell to show no emotions teems with a black guy (black guys are generally used for comic relief) and enroll themselves in G.I.Joe, an elite force which has sworn to protect the world. An evil arms dealer with the help of a brilliant scientist who strangely looks like Sub Zero from Mortal Kombat design “nanomites” to take over the world. Blah blah! The hero saves the day and manages to rescue the hot girlfriend (Sienna Miller, who surprisingly doesn’t look that hot once the bosom accentuating black leather dress comes off) from the insidious mind prison imposed on her by her bestial and conceited brother. You get the plot. Surprisingly, the animation used (particularly in the scenes when the planes fly over the desert) were so bad that it appeared to be the handiwork of the Anti-Animation Man! Such poor animation can’t be explained in such a big budget summer blockbuster.

But, to be fair to the film, it was watchable. So if you have nothing to do or long for an empty cinema hall to get some action, check this movie out for sure. Either way you’ll get value for your money.

Enough to give a solid boner eh? The first one is at a recently concluded award function Teen Choice Awards where she invoked her inner Britney Spears and danced on a stripper pole! Looking at Britney’s progress from “I’m oh so sweet darling of America, Oops! I did it again!” image to “I’m a sexy mama with really bloated legs and bad teeth” image, and now the advent of new “sexy” Miley Cyrus one can’t help but wonder whether Disney studios has a “Turn sweet girls into hoes” division!

But the reactions on this incident are the ones to look out for!
